"Hi I'm Brianna Milan"

When you first meet someone you usually introduce yourself with the normal introduction of your name, who you are, where your from, and some other interesting facts about yourself. What if you where asked to introduce yourself through music. Wait, what? It is a strange request, but if you really think about it you can see that through music, you can introduce yourself in a deeper way then you ever knew you could. Take me for example. If I were to come up to you and say "Hi, my name is Brianna Milan and I am from Alpharetta, Georgia." Now isn't that just the typical, boring way of introducing oneself? Instead, why not use a song:

This song not only tells where I am from, but it also gives my feeling about Georgia. In the first part of the song, Ray Charles expresses that Georgia is always on my mind:

Georgia, Georgia
The whole day through
(The whole day through)
Just an old sweet song
Keeps Georgia on my Mind

This shows that, not only am I from Georgia, but I am also keeping Georgia on my mind at all times. "Georgia is like a sweet song" Literally, this verse tells it all. Georgia has held such sweet memories for me and also holds my friends and family back home. This song just supports my feelings on how much I love and Miss Georgia.

Now see, you wouldn't have gotten any of that out of just saying I'm from Georgia. After you tell a person who you are, the person your conversing with might want to know a little bit more about you, so how would you communicate that through words?  I know I couldn't just tell someone who I was in a nutshell, It's too hard! but If you communicate through song.....that might be a better option.

If you can't tell bey this song, I am a HUGE Broadway nerd. I live, breath, and eat musical theatre...in short; musical theatre is life. Ever sense i was little i have dreamed of being one of the few that get their chance to perform on Broadway. This song describes my determination, the pressure, and the love that I put into making that big dream of mine come true. even though I may break, cry, or "go through crazy weather" to get to Broadway "I'm focused on the prize". This is who I am. The girl striving for Broadway no matter the crazy the weather I encounter one the way, because one day.... it will all pay off.
Other than being a GIGANTIC Musical theatre geek, I also lead a different life than just music. I also strive to be the best person I can be and help others along the way. I also try to lead a life fear-free. Even when obstacles arise, I try to overcome each one. I could try to explain this to the person I am conversing with, but sometimes it is difficult to tell someone your just meeting these things about yourself. so why not convey the life you lead into a song:

While I try to lead the life that is sung by Mariah Carey, there are also different values that I live by.
Respect is a HUGE value in my life. Without respect, I feel like people can't interact. Sure they can interact, but not on a level where anything will get accomplished or settled. Aretha Franklin's lyrics show that respect leads to showing others respect if you wish to receive the respect back.
So as you can see, you can covey things a lot clearer and in deeper in-depth with the use of music!

  1. I love how passionate you are about what you do especially musical theater. Are you into all aspects of theater? Dancing, singing, and acting? Talk about triple threat!!!! I have grown up going to broadway shows my entire life! I would love to see what you can do and one day see you up there!!!!! To touch upon one of your choices, Hero by Mariah Carey, my dance studio actually did our big lyrical production to that song this year and it has a very special place in my heart!!! Your song choices were awesome and I completely agree with respect being as big of a part in my life as it is in yours! Thank you for sharing these wonderful songs!

  2. Me and you seemingly have the same taste in music, except I don't know a lot about Broadway musicals, but the show "smash" makes me want to to take part in musicals - I've always imagined myself auditioning for the "Wiz of Oz" and playing Michael Jackson's role (the scarecrow). My favorite song from from smash is "let me be your star" - I actually sing it sometimes (I switch the words of course), but I don't know the whole song. You should listen to katherine mcphee's rendition of "somewhere over the rainbow" - amazing. I also like to belt our lea michele's "being good isnt good enough," you should also listen to that. And mariah carey and aretha franklin, they are also my favorite female singers - I cant even stress that. (They're also aries, just like me)! I'm going to stop now, because I would just keep going on and on. Overall, excellent presentation and good luck!
